After identifying the need for a material for teaching Spanish as a second language that would adapt to the needs of international schools who prepare students for the Spanish B exam of the International Baccalaureate Organization, we decided to develop a text based on the characteristics of that course. We developed a young adult literary text as an instrument for learning Spanish who covered the theme of inculturality. When working with original texts, what we aim for is to adapt the activities to the level of the students rather than manipulating existing texts and simplifying them. In relation to the reading comprehension questions, these develop different microskills through a variety of questions. On the other hand, either as a starting point or after the reading comprehension work, we integrate the reading with other linguistic skills. Additionally, we include a variety of graphic organizers and we integrate grammar and vocabulary with the text. Finally, we can say that this material, by connecting with the reality of the target audience, motivates students, prepares them for the exam and improves their command of the language. Finally, we can say that this material offers students good practice in the way to handle a text, even when they will always be confronted with an unknown text when they take the exam
