vida.
Nowadays, physical inactivity is considered as one of the four top risks for mortality worldwide. Specifically, in Peru, 75% of the population maintain a low activity level. This prevalence especially affects older adults, since their capacities tend to decrease over the years, thus conditioning them both physically and emotionally. This reveals the urgence in adopting approaches based on prevention. Around the world there are several urban alternatives focused on solving inactivity for this population, however, they are focused on an area’s specific needs. As a result, Lima presents a lack of spaces for physical activity promotion in a motivating and engaging way that is well known by the elderly in Lima. In order to approach the problem, physical activity was combined with nature and social interaction to promote well being and revitalization among older adults. To develop this, Interviews, Shadowing and Ethnographies were used as study methods, in which information was collected and later analyzed using tools such as Affinity Diagrams. Thus, the present study proposes Tantay, an urban recreational space which combines physical activity, social interaction and nature among older adults in San Borja district in Lima. As a result of research, Tantay urban recreational space is optimal for promoting outdoor physical activity and social interaction among older adults, thus improving their quality of life.
