Abstract
La población de la ciudad de Quito durante la época colonial evidenció su vulnerabilidad ante los procesos naturales catastróficos; en este contexto, los miembros del clero católico promovieron una serie de respuestas religiosas con el fin de fortalecer en el pueblo la idea de la búsqueda de Dios y de la fe cristiana especialmente a través de procesiones y rogativas en las que participó la mayoría de la comunidad.
The population of the city of Quito during the colonial era showed their vulnerability to catastrophic natural processes; in this context, members of the Catholic clergy promoted a series of religious responses in order to strengthen the people the idea of finding God and the Christian faith specially through processions and prayers in which he participated most community.
