Resumen
El presente estudio tiene por objetivo calcular el Índice de Progreso Social [IPS] para
la provincia de Condesuyos, de la Región Arequipa y de los distritos más representativos de
la provincia. Para ello, se realizó una investigación no experimental de alcance descriptivo,
con enfoque cuantitativo y con un proceso de análisis transversal. Esta investigación tiene
una importancia especial al ser la primera vez que se mide el IPS en la provincia de
Condesuyos.
Para la recolección de datos, se utilizaron fuentes primarias y secundarias. Como
fuente primaria se utilizaron los resultados de una encuesta de 58 preguntas que brindaron
información sobre los 12 componentes del IPS. Esta encuesta fue aplicada a una muestra
representativa de 340 hogares, distribuidos en los 6 distritos más representativos de la
provincia, en forma proporcional al número de hogares por distrito.
Para el cálculo del IPS se siguieron los pasos planteados por el modelo del Social
Progress Imperative, el resultado del presente estudio muestra que el IPS de la provincia de
Condesuyos tiene un puntaje de 41.65 que indica que tiene un nivel de progreso social Muy
Bajo. Este resultado se construye con el promedio del puntaje de las tres dimensiones: (a)
necesidades humanas básicas con un resultado de 54.03, (b) fundamentos del bienestar con
un resultado de 38.13; y (c) oportunidades con un resultado de 32.81. Lo anterior muestra un
puntaje Bajo en la dimensión de necesidades humanas básicas, Muy Bajo en la dimensión de
fundamentos del bienestar y Extremo Bajo en lo que se refiere a oportunidades.
Estos resultados del Índice de Progreso Social sirven de ayuda para que la
Municipalidad Provincial de Condesuyos pueda direccionar sus recursos hacia los distritos
que necesitan mayor apoyo e invertir en las áreas más descuidadas que son salud, educación,
vivienda y acceso a tecnología e información, lo que permitirá el desarrollo integral de la
provincia.
The objective of this study is to calculate the Social Progress Index [SPI] for the province of Condesuyos, Arequipa Region and for the most representative districts of the province. This study is a non-experimental research of descriptive scope was carried out, with a quantitative approach and a transversal analysis process. This investigation has a special importance because it is the first time that SPI is measured in the province of Condesuyos. For data collection, primary and secondary sources were used. The results of a survey of 58 questions that provided information on the 12 components of the SPI were used as the primary source. This survey was applied to a representative sample of 340 households, distributed in the 6 most representative districts of the province, proportionally to the number of households per district. The result of the present study shows that the SPI of the province of Condesuyos has a score of 41.65 points which indicates that it has a Very Low Level of social progress. This result is constructed with the average of the score of the three dimensions: (a) basic human needs with a result of 54.03, (b) welfare fundamentals with a result of 38.13; and (c) opportunities with a result of 32.81. The above shows a Low score in the dimension of basic human needs, Very Low in the fundamentals dimension of welfare and Low end in terms of opportunities. In relation to the results by district, the district of Chuquibamba has obtained the highest score of the province of Condesuyos with 50.90 points, Yanaquihua obtained 47.67 points; Iray obtained 44.92 points, Andaray obtained 44.30 points, Cayarani obtained 44.25 points and finally Rio Grande obtained 35.79 points. These results of the Social Progress Index help the Provincial Municipality of Condesuyos to direct its resources towards the districts that need greater support and invest in the most neglected areas such as health, education, housing and access to technology and information, that will allow the integral development of the province.
