Abstract
During these days, obtaining a language certificate has become a must for cultural and economic exchanges. One of the best-known is B2 First’s Cambridge University who certifies that somebody is an independent user. This research has the goal to explain the features and how it is assessed the B2 First’s speaking test. To reach that aim, we carry out research on properties of spoken language and the criteria about assessment developed in Communicative Approach and in Task-Based Approach. Furthermore, we examine real tests and the examiner’s comments that allow us to understand which candidate’s features and strategies have a better score. Finally, these findings are completed with examiners’ suggestions that based on their experience explain how to carry out successfully the different parts of the test. Between the conclusions obtained we find that a candidate needs to extend strategically their ideas with discourse markers, cohesive devices and chunks (groups of frequent words without a specific meaning). Besides, not only linguistic features play a role but also nonlinguistic ones (like eye contact and calming the nerves).
