daban protagonismo a los familiares y aquello que representaban en la vida de Papi Lucho;
This work seeks to explain the process of framing the stage shown in the documentary “Otros cielos, otras nubes [una historia de Papi Lucho]” (Different Skies, Different Clouds [a story on Papi Lucho]). Said film delves into the life and death of Luis Motta “Papi Lucho”, the director’s grandfather. It combines footage of him alongside scenes that reflect on his passing and the remembrance shown by his relatives, with a performance on stage. On this set, the family recreates anecdotes, dream sequences and candid moments related to him, all in a context that switches between reality and fiction; within the set and outside of it. The objective of this work is to help inspect the audiovisual framing from an artistic, photographic and production-wise standpoint. As such, there were scenes produced that gave prominence to the deceased’s relatives and what they represented on Papi Lucho’s life within a fictional space that contrasted in tone with the live footage presented. This was done with the purpose of highlighting the theme of remembrance from a photography and art-direction standpoint. Having finished production on the documentary, it is also concluded from an art direction perspective that building a completely, real-life based set is not necessary in this context, but can however help convey emotion without having an excessive amount of elements, alongside off-set shooting. This helps bring naturalness to the documentary and helps with alternating both fiction and reality.
