Reinvestigando Ñawimpukyo: nuevos aportes al estudio de la cultura Huarpa y del Periodo Intermedio Temprano en el valle de Ayacucho

Abstract

El Proyecto Arqueológico Nawinpukyo ha reiniciado tareas de investigación en el sitio arqueológico del mismo nombre, ubicado en Ayacucho, tradicionalmente considerado como uno de los más importantes de la cultura Huarpa del Periodo Intermedio Temprano (ca. 200 a.C.-550 d.C.). Se han documentado formas arquitectónicas huarpa hasta ahora desconocidas y de carácter probablemente ceremonial, así como contextos arqueológicos correspondientes a la transición entre Huarpa y Huari que confirman el importante rol jugado por este sitio en el desarrollo cultural de Ayacucho.

Reexamining Ñawimpukyo: New Contributions to the Study of Huarpa Culture and the Early Intermediate Period at Ayacucho ValleyThe Ñawinpukyo Archaeological Project began renewed research activities at the important site of Ñawinpukyo. Ayacucho, traditionally considered the capital of a Huarpa culture polity during the Early Intermediate Period (ca. 200 BC-AD 550). New Huarpa architectural shapes, formerly unknown, and probably of a ceremonial nature, have been excavated. Archaeological contexts corresponding to the transition between Huarpa and Huari times confirm the important rol played by this site in the cultural development of Ayacucho.
