The present study explores the relationship between the dimensions of parenting, warmth and control, and the adolescent’s emotion regulation. To this end, the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI) and the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS) were answered by a total of 187 participants, between the ages of 16 and 20 years old (M=17.07; DE=1.088). Negative correlations were found between parental warmth and difficulties in emotion regulation and positive correlations were found between the latter and parental control. Moreover, some dimensions of the adolescent’s emotion regulation correlated only with the scales of one of the parental figures. Adolescents reported higher perceived warmth and control from their mothers than from their fathers and differences between girls and boys over how they perceived their rearing were only found in the degree of perceived paternal control, being this scale higher for women than for men. Besides, regarding emotion regulation, men manifested more difficulties to control their behavioral responses to negative emotions than women. Implications and practical utility of the results are discussed, as well as the limitations of the study.
