Resumen
Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde es la principal productora de concentrado de cobre y
molibdeno del Perú, su operación está ubicada en la ciudad de Arequipa. Tiene como
principal accionista la corporación estadounidense Freeport McMoran desde el año 2007. El
plan estratégico ha tomado como base el modelo secuencial integral del Proceso Estratégico
desarrollado por Fernando D’Alessio, que tiene la finalidad de proyectar a la compañía a la
declaración de la visión para el año 2029, enfocada en alcanzar la excelencia operativa de
forma sustentable, la reducción de costos, evitar daños contra la salud de los trabajadores y
controlar el impacto ambiental con un uso eficiente del agua.
El plan inició con la evaluación de la situación actual de Cerro Verde, analizando la
interacción del entorno global con la empresa minera. Luego se realizó el análisis externo e
interno, identificando la demanda creciente de cobre y molibdeno de los mercados
emergentes como una gran oportunidad, sin embargo, existe la amenaza proveniente de la
fluctuación de precios de los metales que impactan directamente en la rentabilidad. Con estos
insumos, se formularon cinco objetivos de largo plazo, para el logro de estos objetivos se
plantearon 20 estrategias de las que se obtuvieron 16 estrategias retenidas y cuatro estrategias
de contingencia, como incrementar la capacidad productiva, desarrollar innovaciones,
implementar nuevas tecnologías, y diversificar su producción hacia otros minerales. Además,
para promover el desarrollo económico y social, se formularon estrategias que beneficiarán a
las comunidades evitando conflictos sociales, y cumplir los estándares medioambientales.
Luego, se establecieron 17 objetivos de corto plazo que serán monitoreados y
controlados anualmente mediante el tablero de control integral, el cuál alertará cualquier
desviación en el cumplimiento del plan, permitirá establecer planes de acción y revaluar los
objetivos de acuerdo a los cambios del entorno.
The proposed Strategic Plan for Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde (SMCV), was developed by applying the comprehensive sequential model of the Strategic Process developed by D’Alessio, with the main objective of maximizing its operational efficiency. From the vision of the future, the long-term objectives that determine the strategies that the mining company must apply are defined, having as pillars the safe production, cost reduction and compliance with the standards of safety, occupational health and environment. The plan began with the evaluation of the current situation of Cerro Verde, analyzing the interaction of the global environment with the mining company, the vision, mission, values and code of ethics were determined. Then the external and internal analysis was carried out, identifying the growing demand for copper and molybdenum from emerging markets as a great opportunity, however, there is a threat from the fluctuation of metal prices that directly impact profitability. With these inputs, the long-term objectives that will benefit the company were formulated, by increasing the level of exports, reducing costs, under compliance with legal and environmental regulations. To achieve these objectives, retained and contingency strategies were proposed, such as increasing productive capacity, developing innovations, implementing new technologies, and diversifying their production to other minerals. In addition, to promote economic and social development, strategies were formulated that will benefit communities by avoiding social conflicts, and meeting environmental standards. Then, short-term objectives were established that will be monitored and controlled annually through the comprehensive control panel, which will alert any deviation in the fulfillment of the plan, will allow to establish action plans and revalue the objectives according to the changes in the environment. Finally, the conclusions and recommendations are detailed.
