This research seeks to analyze and compare the informative treatment of the presidential campaign of the 2021 general elections - second round in two printed newspapers, one with regional coverage and the other with national coverage; El Diario del Cusco and El Comercio, respectively. Its objective is to describe the relationship between the media and politics in conjunctural and transcendental processes such as the general elections that took place in 2021. Therefore, an analysis was made of 69 texts from both newspapers published during the 2021- 2 electoral campaign period, in the run-up to the second round. These inquiries were carried out under the theoretical definitions of framing, journalistic newsworthiness, the normative theory of genres and the key elements of press analysis that together allowed us to determine the fulfillment of Schmuhl's social responsibility function of each newspaper. The results showed that the journalistic informative treatment of the General Elections 2021 in the second round of the newspaper El Comercio is different from that of the regional newspaper El Diario del Cusco in terms of the fulfillment of its social responsibility function. The way in which these media represent a candidate or party, evidencing their political stance in electoral times, is exposed; a fact that contrasts with the fact that they seek the welfare of the population over other interests.
