Abstract
Arica, la ciudad de la eterna primavera, continuamente ha sido amenazada por la presencia de terremotos y tsunamis, enemigos constantes de su desarrollo urbano. El siguiente artículo dará a conocer las alternativas del enfrentamiento entre las fuerzas internas de la tierra y la capacidad de los ariqueños para sortear sus embates a lo largo del siglo XVII.
Arica, the city of eternal spring, has been continually threatened by the presence of earthquakes and tsunamis, constant enemies of urban development. The following article will present alternatives of the confrontation between the internal forces of the earth and the ability of the people of Arica to overcome their attacks throughout the seventeenth century.
