Resumen
El presente trabajo de investigación tiene como objetivo calcular y medir el nivel de
progreso social de la provincia de Ayabaca y de los 10 distritos que la componen, por tal
razón, se utilizó el Índice de Progreso Social (IPS) como metodología propuesta por el Social
Progress Imperative, analizando las tres dimensiones establecidas por el modelo: (a)
Necesidades Básicas Humanas, (b) Fundamentos del Bienestar y (c) Oportunidades, y sus
respectivos componentes.
El análisis del Índice de Progreso Social de la Provincia de Ayabaca alcanzó una
calificación de 46.52 puntos, el cual lo ubica en un nivel “Bajo”, esto evidencia un déficit en
el progreso social de dicha Provincia, ya que las dimensiones Fundamentos de Bienestar y
Oportunidades se encuentra en un nivel “Extremo Bajo”, mientras que la dimensión de
Necesidades Básicas Humanas en un nivel “Bajo”. Haciendo una comparación del IPS de la
región Piura con una calificación de 58.40, ubicándose en un rango “Medio Bajo”, con el IPS
de la provincia de Ayabaca, se observa una diferencia considerable de aproximadamente 12
puntos, lo que evidencia un desarrollo no uniforme de las provincias que componen a la
región.
Por otro lado, se desarrolló una investigación de tipo cuantitativa y descriptiva, con un
diseño transaccional no experimental. Para el resultado de la medición se utilizaron fuentes
primarias y secundarias. Como fuente primaria se utilizó la encuesta del IPS proporcionada
por CENTRUM PUCP y diversas fuentes secundarias como investigaciones y bases
estadísticas. El tamaño de muestra con el cual se obtuvieron los resultados del IPS fue de 381
jefes de hogar, distribuidos en ocho de los diez distritos de la provincia de Ayabaca.
