participantes.
The present study aims to explore if there is a direct and statistically significant relationship between intrinsic motivation for reading and reading comprehension in middle school students of a private institution for boys and girls from Lima Metropolitana. To achieve the purpose of the study, two instruments were used. The first one was the Motivations for Reading Questionnaire (MRQ-2004), which measure the intrinsic motivation. The second one was the Prueba de Complejidad Lingüística Progresiva (CLP), which measure the reading comprehension of the students. The sample consisted of 77 students, being 52 in seven grade (67.5%) and 25 eight grade (32.5%). The distribution for gender was 45 men (58.3%) and 32 women (41.6%). The results evidenced the existence of a positive correlation between both constructs (r = .37; p = .01). Besides, a correlation was found in each grade, for seven (r = .31; p = .03) grade and eight (r = .56; p = .05) grade. In addition, it was shown that as age increases intrinsic reading motivation and reading comprehension increase. Therefore, differences were found between the scores in second and first grade, finding higher scores in second grade. Regarding the sex of the participants, the results showed a non-existent relationship between this variable and the two constructs studied. In other words, no significant differences were found according the sex of the participants. Keywords: Motivation for Reading, Reading Comprehension, Middle school.
