Abstract
Nuestra propuesta es distinguir entre tres tipos de escasez, la absoluta, la relativa y la comparativa. De esta manera asociamos la escasez a los tres aspectos o procesos de la economía: la producción, el intercambio y la distribución. A lo largo del siglo XX en la teoría económica el concepto de escasez ha sido tan central como unilateral pues sólo ha sido tratado sobre todo en relación al segundo de los aspectos.
We suggest the need to distinguish between three types of scarcity: absolute, relative and comparative. In this way we relate scarcity to the three main components of the economy: production, exchange and distribution. During the XX Century, scarcity has been, by far, mainly used to deal with the second.
