The following investigation aimed to describe the relationship between parental bonding -maternal and paternal control and care- and the risk and protective factors of suicidal ideation in a group of university adolescents in Metropolitan Lima. For this purpose, 82 men and 66 women aged between 18 and 21 years were evaluated (M = 19.00, SD = 1.00) using the Parental Bonding Instrument (Melis et al., 2001) and the Positive and Negative Suicidal Ideation Inventory (Villalobos, 2009). As well, differences in the variables were explored according to socio-demographic variables. It was found that the risk factors of suicidal ideation are positively related to parental control and inversely to parental care. In the same way, it was found that the greater the presence of protective factors, less presence of paternal control and greater presence of paternal and maternal care. Finally, it was observed that participants perceive that their mothers are significantly more controlling and affective than their fathers. These findings are discussed, as well as the limitations of the study and future lines to follow.
