aprendizaje.
The COVID-19 pandemic has made visible the inequalities and challenges we have as a society. To deal with this, it is essential to rethink the way we educate to move towards a more just and supportive society that works collaboratively to confront these challenges. In that sense, it is also advisable to rethink how we evaluate to move towards a motivating, transparent, and participatory evaluation, which seeks to humanize and not segregate. Consequently, the need arises to delve into formative assessment as a powerful improvement tool. Thus, the research aims to recognize the characteristics of formative assessment and identify its benefits to strengthen learning in primary education. The methodology of this research is qualitative, in dissertation format, and focuses on documentary analysis. It is concluded that formative assessment has various benefits that impact the improvement of student learning. Likewise, this affects teachers, as it will allow them to reflect on their practice and make decisions to improve their way of teaching. On the other hand, it helps the student be aware of their learning and develop metacognitive skills to continue learning and achieve autonomy. This research serves as a guide for teachers to see evaluation as an opportunity to motivate and improve teaching and learning.
