To assess these effects, a qualitative study was conducted, with a thematic approach, in which semi-structured individual interviews were carried out. Eight people (four women and four men) with Peruvian nationality and Japanese descent, who had been dekasegi within the previously defined decade, were interviewed. Analysis of the interview content is presented according to the two objectives of the investigation: 1) Motives and reasons for migration and 2) the acculturation process in Japanese society and its relationship with identity processes. The findings indicate that participants affirm their Peruvian identity with positive emotions and self-representations based on their migratory experience.
