La frontera en la imagen del arte contemporáneo. “Relato de una negociación”

Abstract

Esta investigación reflexiona sobre la imagen de frontera. Se pregunta por el rol social de las imágenes en tanto emergen, participan y son productoras de los lugares que representan. Toma como punto de partida algunas imágenes del arte contemporáneo limeño, imágenes no convencionales que llaman la atención por el tema, preocupaciones en torno a políticas y usos de lugares específicos, y por el modo de abordar el tema, tecnologías de representación que retan a los cánones del arte tradicional y sus límites. Por ello, la investigación se ubica en el entrecruzamiento de teorizaciones sobre la imagen, la frontera y el arte contemporáneo. Aborda el estudio de la imagen como un hecho social y se interesa por cómo se forma a partir de lo social y también lo conforma desde su agencia; y por el lugar de frontera como una producción social, la reunión de materialidades, prácticas e ideas, al centro de las cuales, se ubica un sujeto social activo. Relato de una negociación es el subtítulo escogido para presentar este trabajo, pues durante la investigación, la imagen observada develó ser más que un objeto de arte, y en cambio, la posibilidad de ser un espacio para pensar, para transitar y para negociar mediante acciones de los sujetos, como la percepción y la representación, los sentidos compartidos y particulares que se dan a la frontera.

This research reflects on the border image. It considers and observes the social role of images as they emerge, participate and are producers of the places they represent. It takes as it´s starting point some contemporary images of the art in Lima. Unconventional images that draw the spectator´s attention due to their theme: concerns about policies and uses of specific places, and how they approach it: technologies of representation that challenge the canons of traditional art and its limits. Therefore, the research is located in the intersection of theorizations about the image, the border and contemporary art. It approaches the study of the image as a social fact, and is interested in how it is formed from the social and also conforms it through its agency; and approaches the place of frontier as a social production, the gathering of materials, practices and ideas in the centre of which there is an active social subject. A story of a negotiation is the sub-title chosen to present this body of work, due to the fact that during the investigation the image observed, revealed itself to be much more than an art object, but rather the possibility to be a space to think, to transit and to negotiate through the actions of the subjects like perception and representation, about the shared or particular meanings given to the border.
