Abstract
Este ensayo trata sobre variables económicas básicas: precios, acuñación y nivel de actividad económica. Los datos provienen de fuentes publicadas y conocidas; han sido desarrollados en forma de series cronológicas. De esta manera, analizando tendencias y fluctuaciones, hemos trazado un cuadro apropiado para la economía del virreinato del Perú, desde Lima y Potosí, durante los siglos XVI y XVII. También se ha introducido una técnica especial para la estimación del nivel de actividad económica.
This essay deals with some basic economic variables: prices, coinage and economic activity level. The data have been taken from published and well known sources and developed as chronological series. So, analyzing trends and tluctuations, we got a suitable picture of Peru viceroyalty’s economy from Lima and Potosi, during the 16th and 17th centuries. It also introduces an special technique for estimating economic activity level.
