Abstract

This article examines the role of climate as a narrative agent in Como si existiese el perdón (2016) by Mariana Travacio. Through the analysis of three key spaces—the village, the city, and the Loprete estate—it argues that climatic conditions not only shape the atmosphere, but also directly influence the characters’ subjectivity and behavior. Heat, drought, and humidity are not merely decorative elements; they are forces that catalyze violence and blur the boundaries of the human. Travacio offers a reflection on how nature intervenes in the ethical and affective formation of the subject, destabilizing traditional notions of order, sanity, and rationality.

El artículo examina el papel del clima como agente narrativo en Como si existiese el perdón (2016), de Mariana Travacio. Mediante el análisis de tres espacios —el pueblo, la ciudad y la finca de los Loprete— se argumenta que las condiciones climáticas no solo configuran la atmósfera, sino que inciden directamente en la subjetividad y conducta de los personajes. El calor, la sequía y la humedad no son solo elementos decorativos, sino fuerzas que catalizan la violencia y desdibujan los límites de lo humano. Travacio plantea una reflexión sobre cómo la naturaleza interviene en la conformación ética y afectiva del sujeto, y desestabiliza las nociones tradicionales de orden, cordura y racionalidad.
