El Tambo is a district located in the province of Huancayo, in the department of Junín. It is an emerging district in constant development, where the consumption characteristics of its population, the lack of political will and the limited resources it has for managing its waste, have meant a challenge in terms of management and handling of the final disposal of its solid waste. Therefore, on different occasions it has experienced health emergencies due to not having a formal infrastructure to dispose of waste. As consequence, different municipal administrations have made use of dumps, which have represented a health and environmental risk for the surrounding populations. That is why the main objective of this work is to analyze the relationship between the work carried out by the municipality regarding the final disposal of waste during the period 2018 - 2019 and the local perception of the impacts on health and to the environment. Regarding the methodology, the research is qualitative in nature. Its theoretical frame is the Geography of Perception, and so it applies techniques such as semi-structured interviews and additional analysis of other data sources. Among the main conclusions, this research shows that the work carried out by the district municipality has been deficient, so that currently the district does not have a sanitary landfill. Likewise, it has been determined that the residents who lived near the “El Edén” and “Agua de las Vírgenes” dumps, during the years 2018 and 2019, perceived negative impacts on the environment and their health due to the presence of these places, which is directly related with the work of the municipality.
