Autoría de un cuento atribuido a Jorge Miota

Abstract

El cuento La pared de enfrente apareció en la revista limeña Actualidades Revista Ilustrada en 1903 y recibió comentarios críticos muy favorables. La autoría del cuento se ha atribuido, repetidamente, a Jorge Miota, una figura menor de la literatura peruana de principios del siglo XX. La atribución es incorrecta. La pared de enfrente es, en realidad, una traducción del cuento Le mur d’en face del escritor francés Pierre Loti, de fama internacional en su época. Tanto el cuento de Loti como la traducción de Miota muestran una fina elaboración.The short story La pared de enfrente appeared in the Lima magazine Actualidades Revista Ilustrada in 1903. The authorship of the text has repeatedly been attributed to Jorge Miota, a minor Peruvian literary figure of the early 20th century. The attribution is incorrect. La pared de enfrente is in fact Miota’s translation of the story Le mur d’en face by the internationally known French author Pierre Loti. Both Loti’s story and Miota’s translation show fine craftsmanship.
