El sincretismo iberoamericano : un estudio comparativo sobre los quechuas (Cusco), los mayas (Chiapas) y los africanos (Bahía)
Abstract
Esta obra analiza un tema poco estudiado, el catolicismo sincrético de Iberoamérica. Aunque la mayoría de los indios y muchos negros, a raíz de la conquista europea, se bautizaron y acabaron aceptando el catolicismo impuesto por los misioneros, sin embargo ciertas etnias de las altas culturas americanas de México y Perú y los negros de los países que recibieron mayor población esclava, Brasil, Cuba y Haití, conservaron, junto a creencias y ritos cristianos, muchos elementos de sus religiones originales, formando sistemas sincréticos, que siguen siendo un problema teórico para las ciencias sociales y un problema pastoral para la Iglesia católica. Este libro trata precisamente de analizar este problema. Para ello el autor ha elegido tres sociedades americanas, los quechuas de Cusco (Perú), los mayas de Chiapas (México) y los africanos de Bahía (Brasil), por considerarlas representativas del sincretismo como formas de resistencia cultural. --Nota del editor.
