Experimentando la evaluación continua en un curso de Matemática dirigido a estudiantes de las carreras de Humanidades
(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2013) Advíncula, Elizabeth Milagros
The aim of this article is to introduce an experience in continuous evaluation applied to a course of Mathematics taken by students pursuing a career in the Humanities; in other words, students that won’t use Mathematics in their future professions. Even though the concept of continuous evaluation is not often heard in higher education, we decided to incorporate this evaluation system in our course as we think it may have a positive impact on the students’ learning process –specially of those pursuing a career in the Humanities. As this kind of evaluation is a continuous and interactive process, it stimulates the development of mathematical skills, and allows students to succeed when facing problems related to every-day life or to their employments.

Impacto de la enseñanza de conceptos de fuerza y movimiento en los cursos de Física General
(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2013) Castillo, Hernán; Moscoso, Richard; Phan, José Luis; Quiroz, Jorge
This article focuses on the results of a research about teaching General Physics concepts to college students, and stresses the relevance of evaluating this kind of knowledge. Between 2009 and 2011, 4,535 students from the Pontifical Catholic University of Perú went through an evaluation process using the Force Concept Inventory test. The data results showed no significant improvement in the students’ learning process after having learned the concepts of force and motion, matters included in Physics 1 and Physics 2. The hardest concept to learn was Newton’s second law. Furthermore, a relevant amount of the students evaluated found no relation between learning these concepts and passing the courses.
