Abstract
The main focus of this research is to explore various open-source digital manufacturing solutions that complements the current supply of domestic CNC machines such as laser cutters and 3D printers. The methodology of the project is determined by the nature of an exploratory study, in such a way that the identification of the background, the observation of the context and the analysis of the advantages and disadvantages, lead to a reflexion on the local market state and the productive possibilities that it offers, as well as to identify a series of needs where the Industrial Design can contribute to solve, to a large extent, different needs of the local digital manufacturing ecosystem. The resolution of the investigation ends up being, the design and manufacturing approach of a CNC machine in a domestic environment, which allows to carry out differentiated work from those already known on the local market, such as cold forming of calibrated alloy materials. non-ferrous or aluminum sticks. It is mainly concluded that the Industrial Design as a projectual activity, through the design of products and technological systems, is a solution for the diversification of the supply of rapid prototyping machines that respond to specific local needs and contexts.
