Abstract
Too often, we in the U.S. pay little attention to Peru. However, just this past month, an entire symposium in the Yale Law Journal,l the lead article and a lengthy comment in the Law & Society Review,2 and an article in Social & Legal Studies3 focused on underground or second economics "in formal legal systems" and the power of other-than-legal sanctions in econcmic transactions, particularly in highly successful Asian economies.
