The objective of this research is to know teachers’ stereotypes about the gender of their students in higher education. A qualitative methodology and thematic analysis design was used. Interviews were conducted with 7 university teachers with at least two years of teaching experience and who had taught career courses. The information analysis was carried out through thematic analysis. The results allow distinguishing stereotypes that teachers have about psychological characteristics and cognitive skills of each gender in learning, and how these characteristics influence the career choice of their students. Finally, there are stereotypes about environmental determinants and their influence on the professional development of women, highlighting motherhood as a motivational factor. Recommendations are made for future research and its impact on teaching practices.
