How does the social function of theatre affect the ethical responsibility of the actor in Latin America since the 1980s? In a context in which many countries went through violent dictatorships that oppressed all artistic manifestations, the return to democracy meant a strong presence of theatre in society that expressed the search for a new national identity. This scenario generates in the actor a self-consciousness and personal change necessary for him to assume a role of agent of change in his society To this end, the experiences of dictatorships in different Latin American countries will be recounted, as well as the particular process that each one went through when transitioning to a democracy. It will also explain the social role played by theatre during this process and the ethical dimension of theatre and actor in society. From this, the ethical and functional intersections between social work and theatre will be analyzed. The following is a description of the social role that theatre has played since then to transform its society and how all of the above falls on the actor, generating in him a development of self-consciousness so that he understands and assumes the importance of his role as an agent of change.
