The aim of this investigation is to analyze the manifestations and transformations of the agency of a patient throughout a brief psychotherapy process. The first section analyzes narratives depicting events of violence that occurred, as told by the patients. Lastly, a narrative analysis is carried out based on the contents of the stories of violence, and the meanings of each narrated experience is interpreted. The results are organized around the three phases of the psychotherapy process according to the Brief Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy, proposed by Lemma, Target and Fonagy (2011). Throughout the three phases, four axes of thematic analysis are developed in a transversal manner: (1) Times in the narrative, (2) Responding to the events, (3) Origin of the problem and awareness of the events, (4) Positioning in the face of violence scenarios. The results show how the psychoanalyticoriented therapeutic intervention proposal for people who have experienced violence generates changes in subjectivity, allowing them to develop a self-reflection look, integrating the events of their history and creating a common thread that helps them establish a notion of continuity. This allows them to recover their agency capacity to break with the history of violence, fostering a will for change.
