The present research addressed the question about how the project studied faced the problem of poor market articulation of artisan associations from Puno and Arequipa to the chain of artisanal alpaca fiber products. We consider that the results of our research can contribute to improving projects that work with artisans in search of improving their income. The research was located in Puno and Arequipa and includes the experience of 8 associations of artisans faced with the challenge of increasing their family income and their conditions of market insertion for their hand-woven products. The districts where these associations are located are areas of poverty and extreme poverty. An important fact to highlight is that more than 5,000 artisans are registered in the National Craft Registry of Puno, managed by MINCETUR. Of which more than 90% are women Our studied population was made up of artisans who work with manually made alpaca threads. In most cases these artisans are part of alpaca farming families located at more than 3,800 meters above sea level. The project studied was: “From camelids to their products. Promotion of added value and commercialization of products based on alpaca fiber in the southern Andean” executed by the Italian organization Progettomondo, financed and supervised by the UNDP Small Grants Program. This was carried out in 2021 in the midst of the COVID pandemic in Peru.
