Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) are collaborative environments in which academic staff, including teachers, administrators, and executives, regularly gather to strengthen their skills and enhance their professional development. These environmentspromote collaboration and constructive dialogue, aiming to improve student learning outcomes. While PLCs have been widely implemented and studied in primary education, their presence and recognition in higher education are limited. Therefore, the overall objective of this research is to analyze the evidence derived from empirical studies on PLCs in higher education through a systematic literature review employing a qualitativeapproach. The findings highlight that the majority of research has been conducted in theUnited States, Europe, and Asia, demonstrating the benefits of implementing PLCs in higher education, such as the professional training and development of academic staff and the achievement of student learning outcomes. However, the need to expand research in Latin American contexts, where PLCs in higher education are still relatively invisible and unrecognized, is emphasized. In summary, this research aims to contributeto the existing knowledge on PLCs in higher education, emphasizing their importance and potential benefits.
