Abstract
Tao Yuanming o Tao Qian (365-427) siguió de cerca los acontecimientos políticos de su época y vivió profundamente preocupado por el destino de su país. Por necesidad, aceptó cargos oficiales hasta que decidió retirarse a la vida del campo. Desde ese momento, hasta su muerte, vivió en el retiro trabajando como campesino pobre. Por la temática de sus versos fue considerado siempre un poeta pastoral o ermitaño, pues ellos desarrollaron el tema de la vida apacible y retirada del labriego. Para varias generaciones de poetas posteriores fue un modelo y un estimulo, tanto por el estilo sencillo y directo de su poesía, como por su amor a la vida campesina.
