Una concepción trágica de la cultura
Abstract
Parafraseando a Unamuno, Selma Baptista propone un recorrido por el desarrollo de la antropología en el Perú a través de los diversos discursos sobre la identidad y lo nacional establecidos por diversos intelectuales, artistas, escritores, y obviamente antropólogos; y también sobre cómo esta disciplina se ha ido relacionando desde mediados del siglo veinte con sus objetos de estudio. Los capítulos más saltantes del libro están dedicados a Mariátegui y su azarosa travesía intelectual a lo largo de sus cortos 36 años de vida, y a Arguedas, el escritor y antropólogo que hizo de su vida entre dos orillas un proyecto intelectual, que lo llevó al desgarramiento y al suicidio. Estas vidas -junto a sucesos como los de Cajamarca de 1532- configuraron un discurso trágico de lo peruano y una concepción de cultura inacabada, en permanente ebullición o en estado de formación. Lectura interesante, más allá de cierto lenguaje especializado y, por momentos, denso.
