¿Visibilizar y/o activar? Notas para la gestión de una Casa de la Cultura

Abstract

A house is a space that we inhabit. However, a house also teaches us to inhabit (it) offering multiple ways to live in it with human beings, people and objects, that are important to us. In other words, a house activates multiple ways to inhabit it so that it and we transform that shared space in where we live: the country, for example. Having this in mind, what is a house of culture? Does it make sense today? To answer these questions, the following article is divided into two sections. The first section focuses on the pedagogical function of the House of Culture, according to José María Arguedas, who was its first director between 1963 and 1964. For Arguedas, the house had a dual function, «adapter» and «creative», which responded to the urgent needs of the migrants in the city of Lima. The second section describes and analyzes the functions of the House of Peruvian Literature, active since 2009, and suggests the need to challenge and transform those functions that seems to follow a visibilizing and not pedagogical notion of literature. throughout the article, useful distinctions to rethink cultural management and policies.

Una casa es un espacio que habitamos. Sin embargo, la casa también nos enseña a habitar(la) ofreciéndonos múltiples formas para vivir en ella con los seres, personas y objetos, que queremos. En otras palabras, la casa activa múltiples formas de habitarla para que ella y nosotros transformemos ese espacio compartido en el que vivimos: el país, por ejemplo. Teniendo esto en cuenta, cabe preguntarse ¿qué es una casa de la cultura? ¿Tiene sentido hoy en día? Para responder estas preguntas, el siguiente artículo se divide en dos partes. La primera sección se enfoca en la función pedagógica de La Casa de la Cultura según José María Arguedas, quien fuera su primer director entre 1963 y 1964. Para Arguedas, la Casa tenía una función doble, “adaptadora” y “creadora”, que respondía a las urgentes necesidades de los migrantes en la ciudad de Lima. La segunda sección describe y analiza las funciones de La Casa de la Literatura Peruana, activa desde el 2009, y sugiere la necesidad de cuestionar y transformar estas funciones que obedecen a una noción sobre todo visibilizadora, y no pedagógica, de la literatura. A lo largo del artículo, se ofrecen útiles distinciones para repensar la gestión de políticas culturales en el Perú.
