The objective of this study is to explore the perceptions of university students regarding the use of Second Life as a collaborative virtual reality platform for learning science subjects. A cross-sectional non-experimental descriptive analytical empirical research design was employed, utilizing quantitative techniques to gather data from 123 students regarding their experiences with immersion. The results reveal that students exhibited genuine engagement with the virtual environment, displaying high levels of interaction and motivation, which in turn increased their level of participation in immersive activities. These findings suggest that incorporating science content into a virtual world offers diverse didactic possibilities and encourages new forms of engagement among participants in educational processes. The study highlights the potential of virtual reality for enhancing higher education practices.

This article aims to demonstrate that the philosophical and educational conceptions of the Brazilian scholar Paulo Freire are rooted in a discursive tradition with origins dating back to the inception of philosophy. This tradition, known as rhetoric, originated with the sophists of Classical Greece, giving rise to an educational approach focused on the holistic development of the individual’s creative, affective, communicative, ethical, and political capacities, all aimed at the betterment of the common good. The first section of the article introduces the theoretical underpinnings and techniques that constitute this pedagogical framework. The subsequent section examines Freire’s philosophical and educational concepts within the context of Sophistic principles.

This study examines the impact of utilizing Personal Learning Environments on enhancing Digital Investigative Competences in undergraduate students at the National University of Piura. Employing a pre-experimental design, the research evaluated students both prior to and subsequent to their participation in a virtual Pedagogical Program titled “Construction of Personal Learning Environments.” A self-assessment sheet gauging digital investigative skills served as the research instrument. The post-test findings indicated that 97% of the students achieved a medium level of competence, while 2.99% exhibited a high level. None fell within the low proficiency category. Statistical analysis employing the non-parametric Wilcoxon test, with a calculated p-value of Sig (bilateral) = 0.000 < α = 0.05, confirmed the significant influence of Personal Learning Environments on the enhancement of Digital Investigative Competences.

This essay aims to explore effective ways to utilize research in improving the quality of university education and address challenges that impede its potential. The authors conducted a multivocal literature review and approached six subtopics, including the role of interdisciplinary research and collaboration, the impact of research on teaching practices and student outcomes, the potential of emerging technologies, the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion, fostering a culture of research and innovation, and the role of funding and resources. They recommend investment in research infrastructure, the promotion of collaboration, engagement, and ethical principles, and building a culture of research. Implementing these recommendations will enable universities to utilize research effectively in order to enhance the quality of university education, drive progress, and contribute to more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable societies.

This article explores the results of Teacher Evaluation in Chile during the last decade, especially those of the teacher portfolio and its subdimensions. The results show that, during the last years, unsatisfactory performance in the Teacher Evaluation has increased, mainly among male teachers and those who teach History. As regards the portfolio, it is the instrument with the lowest average results each year, especially its indicators of curricular emphasis and use of error for learning; the binary logistic regression indicates that the most favorable profile for an adequate performance in this instrument is linked to the female gender, secondary education, and the mathematics subsector. The conclusions discuss the role and usefulness of the portfolio in Teacher Evaluation and educational policy.

Oral communication is an essential competence in the academic and professional fields. However, evaluating it presents a challenge due to the difficulty in establishing observable and objective descriptions. The purpose of this study is to identify the level of development of oral communication skills achieved by students. To achieve this, a standardized evaluation system was implemented with a sample of 592 undergraduate students enrolled between the sixth and twelfth cycles at a private Peruvian university. The study concludes that students performed better in terms of content development, eye contact, and pronunciation, while difficulties were observed in fulfilling the communicative purpose, using gestures, and varying the tone of voice. The study concludes with recommendations for future experiences regarding standardized evaluation of oral communication.

This study examined the self-assessment learning practices of student teachers in Peru. The research design employed an exploratory approach, and the sample consisted of 201 students, predominantly women, aged between 20 and 24 years. The Learning Self-Assessment Questionnaire, previously validated in Ecuador and Mexico, was adapted and used to ensure content validity for the Peruvian context. The findings revealed that the students relied more on self-grading processes, primarily for summative purposes, rather than engaging in self-evaluations with formative intentions. Consequently, they lacked the ability to effectively utilize self-assessment information to regulate their own learning, thereby limiting the development of metacognitive processes. This finding is paradoxical considering that these student teachers will be responsible for facilitating the learning processes of future students. The study concludes with suggestions for future research aimed at strengthening the culture of self-assessment.

This article presents the results of the implementation of the educational software called Sistproy in the learning of university students of research subjects from the elaboration of the consistency matrix and results matrix oriented to the formulation of basic, applied and technological thesis projects. The quantitative research used a sample of 39 students of Electrical Engineering of the Continental University enrolled in the subject Research Workshop I, who were selected by non-random convenience sampling and then classified into experimental and control groups. It is concluded that the use of the educational software improves the students’ learning, detecting superiority in the scores obtained and notable progress in the elaboration of the thesis project.

The objective of this study was to investigate Learning Assessment as an integral part of the professional knowledge required for educators to assess whether educational objectives have been met at the tertiary level. A comprehensive literature review was conducted, analyzing academic sources within the Web of Science database from 2017 to 2021, resulting in a collection of 56 papers in Spanish. Following the application of rigorous double-blind inclusion and exclusion criteria, content analysis was performed on 17 publications that encompassed a range of approaches. Notably, prevalent among these were the concepts of formative assessment, assessment for learning, and the incorporation of feedback in pedagogical innovations. However, more robust theoretical frameworks based on concep-tual and historical foundations were less frequently encountered. Consequently, this study marks a departure from the conventional perspective on traditional learning assessment, signaling a fresh approach to enhancing assessment literacy among Spanish-speaking educators in the domain of Higher Education.
