Abstract
The present study aims to explore the levels of burnout in a group of 93 teachers from a middle-low income catholic educational institution in Lima. At the same time, it pretends to analyze the relationship between the three components of burnout (emotional exhaustion, despersonalization, and personal accomplishment) and the sociodemographic and job characteristics of the assessed group, as well as with the coping strategies variable. Maslach Burnout Inventory – Educators Survey and COPE Inventory were used to measure the main objectives. It was found that 3.2% of the teachers in this study could have already developed the burnout syndrome, while 45.2% were in risk or had a tendency towards it. On the other hand, it was found a significant relationship between tha variables Age, Experience and Work Hours, and the components of burnout; and significant differences between the levels of burnout according to Gender. Likewise, it was found that coping styles focused on problem solving were related to the syndrome in a negative way, while avoidance was related positively.
