Abstract
The general objective of this study is describe the relationship between father involvement and coparenting, as well as the relationship between father involvement and maternal gatekeeping in families of preschool children from the province of Tarma. In addition, the specific objectives of this study are describe the differences in father involvement, coparenting and gatekeeping according to the sociodemographic characteristics of the group. For this purpose, 128 resident parents aged between 23 and 54 years (M = 34.13, SD = 6.99) of children between 35 and 72 months of age were evaluated (M = 54.11, SD = 10.35) using the Parental Involvement Scale: Care and Socialization Activities to measure father involvement, the Coparenting Questionnaire (CQ) to evaluate coparenting and the Parental Regulation Inventory (PRI) for maternal gatekeeping. Significant differences were found in different areas of father involvement except in the play area according to the paid work of the mother, work time of the father, age of the father and educational level of the father. Regarding the general objectives, a direct correlation was found between the area of teaching and discipline of father involvement and the total coparental score of the mother. Likewise, an inverse correlation was found between this same area, teaching and discipline, and the gatekeeping area of criticism, which suggest that the involvement of the father in the teaching and discipline of the child would be susceptible to the support or criticism of his partner in relation with his performance in this area.
