Subordinación y agencia: el personaje principal de la película Juliana

Abstract

This essay intersectionally analyzes the main character of the film Juliana (1989) in order to highlight the marginal space that frames her and in which she essentially moves, as well as the space where the relations of power and subordination that condition her in the face of the male figure, demanding that he accept submission as a maternal inheritance. It is recalled how race and social class are superimposed on these factors, thus creating simultaneous subordinations. However, it is argued that despite these multiple layers of oppression, Juliana resists and develops an agency that places her in a constant position of questioning, allowing her to challenge the established order.Este ensayo analiza interseccionalmente al personaje principal de la película Juliana (1989) con el fin de resaltar el espacio marginal que la enmarca y en el que se desplaza físicamente, así como el espacio donde predominan las relaciones de poder y subordinación que la condicionan frente a la figura masculina, exigiéndole aceptar la sumisión como una herencia materna. Se recalca cómo a estos factores se superponen la raza y la clase social, con lo que se crean subordinaciones simultáneas. No obstante, se sostiene que, a pesar de estas múltiples capas de opresión, Juliana resiste y desarrolla una agencia que la sitúa en una posición constante de cuestionamiento, lo que le permite desafiar el orden establecido.
