Abstract
Having a secure attachment base is an essential element for the healthy development of an individual, since it allows the acquisition of emotional regulation, attentional control and metallization abilities. The development of these capacities is important for maternal sensitivity, as these can influence the ability of mothers to respond appropriately to the signals of their babies. Similarly, it can also influence the quality of care that the child receives in his first years of life, which is of vital importance for his mental health. Therefore, the present study focuses on adolescent motherhood and has as principal aim to evaluate the relationship between the maternal sensitivity and the adult attachment styles in. As the first specific objective, it is sought to investigate if there is a relationship between the sensitivity and the age of the mother. The second specific objective is to find out if the sex of the baby may be influencing maternal sensitivity. For this, 19 mothers aged 15 to 19 years (M = 18.26 and DS = 1.195), along with their children, aged between 6 and 28 months (M = 12.11 and DS = 6,927) were evaluated. To carry out the study, the Maternal Behavior Q-Sort (MBQS) and the Relationship Questionnaire (RQ), were used. The tests were applied in a single session. The results obtained show a positive moderate correlation between the Non-Sensitive-Sensitive profile and the preoccupied attachment style. In addition, age of the mothers was found to be related to the sensitive care of them towards their babies, but no relationship between the sex of the baby and the maternal sensitivity was found.
