Abstract
This research aims to understand the perception of risk of the population in the district of Cerro Azul regarding the occurrence of a tsunami. The study comprises different sections that provide relevant information about Disaster Risk Management studies in general and specifically for the delimited study area. There are seven chapters in total. The first chapter serves as an introduction to the topic, containing general information about Disaster Risk Management (DRM) studies, the problem of the current research, justification, research questions, and objectives. The second chapter provides the conceptual framework of the thesis, including the theoretical framework and background information. The third chapter includes important information about the physical and social dimensions of the research area, namely, the district of Cerro Azul. The fourth chapter covers the methodological aspects of the research. The last three chapters, the fifth, sixth, and seventh (results, discussion, and conclusions), are closely related. The results lead to the conclusion that the population of the Cerro Azul district is aware of the risk they face in the event of a tsunami and participates in the training sessions implemented by the municipality. However, in practice, the concern is not as high due to the low probability of the phenomenon occurring.
