Camaná is a province of Arequipa known for its agricultural production of rice, beans, onions, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, and other crops, the most representative of which is rice, due to the annual production of this product for domestic consumption and export. However, despite the amount of agricultural crops grown year after year, farmers are at a disadvantage due to the high production costs and low sales price, which decreases due to the interaction of intermediary distributors, who generate profits from the farmer's hard work. This is why the initiative of an agricultural cooperative called "El Cardo" was born, with the objective of founding an agricultural cooperative for the benefit of the farmers of the district of José María Químper in Camaná. In view of this, it was determined that the project will start with the association of farmers, who will provide capital to the cooperative to build a rice mill, so that the processing of rice is done in-house, avoiding the use of third-party mills that make the product more expensive; on that basis, the product will be sold and distributed directly to final consumers at a competitive price of S/ 215.00 per-50 kg bag of rice. An investment of S/ 271,621.00 will be required to start the agricultural cooperative as well as its operations, obtaining an NPV of S/ 5,154,756.62 or its equivalent of $1,374,601.80, which offers a profitability for the agricultural partners of the cooperative, managing to address Sustainable Development Goal 8, with a social NPV of S/7,257,949.32 or its equivalent of $1,945,830.92
