mantiene una transversalidad cultural, compuesta por 3 factores (atractivo y salud;
Mate ideals has been investigated by Evolutionary Psychology, which has found crosscultural evidence about the existence of 3 factors to evaluate the quality of the ideal partner (attractiveness and general health; closeness and intimacy; status-resources). However, evidence also supports that cultural particularities can be found in different social contexts. In Perú, Ramírez (2017) studied the factorial structure of the mate ideals in university women from Lima. The results reported a structure similar to previous investigations findings; nevertheless, particularities of Peruvian culture were found. By having such evidence, this study investigated the mate ideals of men in order to compare it with the results from women. For all these reasons, the aim of this study was to identify the emic categories of mate ideals in university men from Lima. Participants were 33 men from Lima universities. An emic methodology was applied with an inductive approach using an open-ended, structured questionnaire. The results included 43 ideal mate categories, but only 8 were discussed for their highest frequency: similar tastes, cute face, cute hair, intelligent, good sense of humor, white skin, projection into the future, supportive. Results were consistent with previous evidence about the universality of mate ideals, even though particular characteristics from Peru were also found.
