Abstract
The objective of this research is to determine the didactic strategies used by English teachers to develop oral production in first-grade students of Secondary Education in online classes in response to the current situation due to the Covid-19 virus. In Peru, educational institutions have been forced to suddenly adapt to this modality without prior training, facing a challenge for the application of the communicative approach in online English lessons. The research methodology is the case study approach, and the data collection techniques used are the interview and documentary analysis. A great difference in the use didactic studies for the development of oral production in light of the strategies of the communicative approach was found among teachers. In addition, a significant difference was found in the theoretical mastery of the principles of the communicative approach among teachers and that the lesson plans used omit subcompetences that make up communicative competence. Finally, a clear dissonance was found between what is proposed in the lesson plans and the didactic strategies used by teachers for the development of oral production. It is recommended that the educational institution review the lesson plans used and generate others with greater specificity. Furthermore, it is recommended to include classroom observation in future research.
