Abstract

For that reason, the perceptions of these actors are important aspects in the development of children’s literacy practices at home. Therefore, the research problem is: What are the perceptions of parents on the emerging literacy practices at home with 4-year-old children in a public educational institution in Lima? In order to answer this problem, the general objective is to analyze the perceptions of parents about the experiences of literacy practices at home with 4- year-old children in a public educational institution in Lima. In order to achieve this objective, a descriptive qualitative methodology is employed and a semi-structured interview is used as a data collection technique. The results of the research conclude that literacy practices in homes are diverse and are carried out differently in each context. In addition, mothers attach great value and importance to these practices because they consider that they contribute to the development of different emerging skills and the strengthening of emergent reading and writing habits. Also, several factors are identified that intervene in the development of such practices in the homes from the experience of the participants.
