Religiosidad y esperanza en un grupo de personas de un centro para el adulto mayor

Abstract

El propósito del presente estudio fue investigar la relación entre religiosidad y esperanza al interior de un grupo de 49 adultos mayores que frecuentan un centro gerontológico social de Lima. De modo específico se buscó analizar las diferencias de la relación entre ambas variables de acuerdo a las edades y sexo de los participantes. Para lograr los objetivos, se efectuó una investigación en un momento único del tiempo mediante la aplicación de un instrumento por cada constructo, el Inventario de Sistemas de Creencias revisado (SBI-15R) y la Escala de Esperanza de Herth revisada (HHS-R), junto con una ficha de datos sociodemográficos. Se encontraron algunas asociaciones, pero no se halló relación entre las dos grandes variables en el grupo completo. Soporte social religioso, en la primera variable y optimismo/soporte-espiritual y agencia, en la segunda, manifestaron algún tipo de relación con la otra variable dentro del grupo. En cuanto a los grupos diferenciados por sexo y edad, se halló la tendencia a una relación entre religiosidad y esperanza en las damas y los adultos mayores avanzados; asimismo, en estos dos subgrupos se presentaron diversas asociaciones entre factores de ambas variables; también se manifestaron algunas entre los adultos mayores jóvenes, mas ninguna entre los varones. Estudiada la relación entre religiosidad y esperanza, la presente investigación permitió concluir que a nivel global no existe asociación entre estos dos constructos al interior del grupo de estudio, sin embargo sí se encontró relación entre algunos de los factores que los conforman.

This study aims to investigate the relation between religiosity and hope in a group of 49 senior citizens who frequent a social gerontology center of Lima. Specifically we sought to analyze differences in the relation between the two variables according to the age and sex of the participants. To achieve the objectives, across-sectional investigation was employed. The Inventory Revised Belief Systems (SBI-15R), the Herth Hope Scale revised (HHS-R), and a sociodemographic data form were used. Some associations were found, but there was no relation between the two largest variables. Religious social support, in the first variable, and optimism/spiritual-support and agency, in the second, showed some relation in the total group. As for the groups differentiated by gender and age, the main link was found between the ladies and the oldest seniors; also, several associations were present in these two subgroups; similarly, some associations among younger senior citizens were found, but none among men. The results obtained make it possible to conclude that there was no association between these two variables within the study group; however relations between some of their factors were found.
