Ítem Texto completo enlazado Cortesanía y gobierno en el virreinato peruano del siglo XVII(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2024-10-18) Gálvez Peña, Carlos M.Published in Lima in 1644, fray Alonso de Almeida´s Pretendiente de la tierra is a complex treatise that explores both the nature of power and the mission of Christian government embodied by the Spanish Empire of the seventeenth century. It is an original appropriation of both Castiglione´s The Courtier (1528) and Botero´s Reason of State (1589). An interesting case of cultural appropriation, Almeida´s work is, however, notably original, since it is designed to be a manual for honorees of the Peruvian viceroyalty to navigate the court at Madrid. The book not only covers formalities and protocol, but, above all, delves into their meaning in the wider context of an ailing Hispanic Monarchy and the relaunch of government based on anti-Machiavellianism. Almeida’s notion of Christian government includes both the individual and the State.Ítem Texto completo enlazado Las cortes en el mundo hispánico: Prácticas y actores. Fondo Editorial, 2008-03-07) Gálvez Peña, Carlos M.A critical reading of the third, and largely unknown, memorial of the Franciscan Buenaventura de Salinas y Córdova (Madrid, 1639) reveals ideas about viceregal economy and politics that are absent from his more famous work, Memorial de las historias del Nuevo Mundo Pirú (Lima, 1630). The 1639 text allows one to establish thematic continuities not only among the writings of his corpus but also with the writings of contemporary authors. Placing Salinas in the ideological context of the seventeenth century thus provides a better understanding of the origin of his ideas. Additionally, this reading discusses the validity of the category of cronista, which has been applied traditionally to Salinas, and proposes for him instead the category of letrado of the early modern period.Ítem Texto completo enlazado Hampe Martínez, Teodoro (comp.). Fondo Editorial, 2012-10-17) Gálvez Peña, Carlos M.Don Feliciano de Vega y Padilla (1580-1641) was one of the most distinguished members of the Peruvian colonial episcopate in the first half of the seventeenth century, and the only one who, after an outstanding ecclesiastical career, was appointed archbishop of Mexico. His passionate life, professional profile and intellectual production make Don Feliciano an interesting case study in order to understand the complex and tense dynamics of power linking Royal Patronage and the most important religious and political institutions in the city of Lima during the early colonial period. The study of Dr. Vega’s life and work also shedslight on the first generation of colonial intellectuals who debated the rights of Creole subjects. The works written by Bishop Vega constitute some of the first written expressions of the defense of prelacies and offices within the colonial Church, and the debate over the doctrine of Distributive Justice which was used to justify these claims. This article analyzes the relationship between Bishop Vega and the principal viceregal institutions: the university, the archbishopric, the cathedral chapter and the Royal Audience. Finally, it will analyze how Lima’s elite citizens, of which Vega was one, manipulated these institutions.Ítem Texto completo enlazado Brendecke, Arndt. Imperio e información.
