Fondo Editorial, 2011-03-20) Mujica, Jaris; Cavagnou, Robin
The sexual exploitation of children and adolescents is a phenomenon that has grown with the expansion of extractive industries (timber, oil, minerals and gas) in the Peruvian Amazon. The article is part of a long research in the city of Pucallpa and the route north of the Ucayali River. Its central objective is to demonstrate the economic dynamics of the mechanisms of commercial sexual exploitation of children and adolescents around the river port. We study the mechanisms of exploitation of local bars and restaurants in the port, the demand and perceptions of sexual exploitation of children, and the economic logic of this phenomenon. This is a business attached to the trade in alcoholic beverages and food, and not due to an organized criminal logical, but to a familiar system of exploitation.

Four letters are included in this publication that Jose Maria Arguedas addressed to Abelardo Oquendo. They document Arguedas’ interest in choosing persons of great literary talent and solid judgemente as editors for his writings. These letters also reveal his personal interpretation of certain practices of Lima intellectual groups, as well as his committed defense in protecting the authenticity of artistic expressions of the Andean world.

Fondo Editorial, 2011-03-19) Arana Bustamante, Luis
This study focuses on the «Platica y conuerzacion de los pretenciores», a brief section of Guaman Poma de Ayala’s chronicle of c.1615. It considers a way of analysing the information and the author’s vision of the early Andean colonial system which show his procedures in social observation and narrative construction. It also makes some remarks about his special social position and doublesided cultural formation.

Fondo Editorial, 2011-03-23) Perazzi, Pablo
This article intends to analyse some aspects of the initial trajectory of the Ethnographic Museum —from 1904 to 1917— period characterized by the direction of archaeologist Juan B. Ambrosetti (1865-1917). The aim is to give an account of the situation of the establishment in the museological circuit locally and internationally, the inclusion of the director in the spheres of sociality, connections with collectors, amateurs, civil servants and similar institutions, networks for the exchange of favors and resources, and strategies for acquisition and training of their collections. What aims, therefore, is an understanding of the plots of power, patronage and influence around which a given intellectual space gained credibility, legitimacy and the prestige necessary to equip the discipline of the expected social and symbolic capital. The thesis supported is that, in their formative stage, anthropological disciplines were modulated and gained recognition on the basis of partnerships, generally of informal kind with institutions and agents not belonging to the community of reference.

In this paper I offer a socio-cultural explanation of Inca Garcilaso’s Romanist program, taking into account the analysis of his biographical anchorages in both Perú and Spain, specially his andalusian experience. To do so, I follow the social events he lived through (the recent conquest of the Islamic world and presence of Jewish converts), as well as the more cultural aspects of his stay in Spain (Royal and nobility classicism, relationship with the Jesuits). By broadening the scope of the interpretation of his texts, we are no longer talking merely about an individual and isolated (if aristocratic) experience, nor about a merely religious or literary option (even if it is expressed in such a way).

The purpose of this work is to explore the ideals of body and behavior among adult women of our new Peruvian middle class attending a gym. It suggests that the ideals of bodies developed in this place are in closely related to traditional notions of gender roles of our society. But, at the same time, emphasizes the fact that they, not only try to have a body in accordance to social expectation, but also to interact or make friends, and to experience a variety of emotions in performing aerobic activity itself. Finally, the paper explores the meaning that these women give to their experience at the gym. Not only does this experience get them closer to the ideal body, fixed by the social standards of femininity, but the experience turns into an opportunity to discuss and remake those models of femininity, and assert their own discourses of identity.

This article elaborates a reading of The Fox from up above and the Fox from down below by Jose Maria Arguedas, from an anthropological perspective, making it dialogue with the genre of experimental ethnography, framed within the positivist paradigm crisis in social sciences. This book aims to describe a complex intercultural context, developing a textual formula with higher powers than the indigenous novel approach or traditional ethnographic realism. While Arguedas has no scientific pretensions, his novel opens and reflects aspects of reality using resources such as collage, myth as historical background and polyphonic perspective through the discourse of social actors within the play. This makes evidence of his training as an ethnologist who is at once literary, enrolling in the phenomenon of blurred genders and the re-figuration of social thought (Geertz 1980). It starts from the novel in its entirety and the accompanying diaries, highlighting certain passages and nourishes of theoretical perspectives relating to ethnography, demonstrating the complexity of the arguedian style, such as theoretical and epistemological questions of anthropology in the second half of the twentieth century.

      Leyendo a Fuenzalida
(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Fondo Editorial, 2011-03-23) Diez, Alejandro
This article offers a brief account of Fernando Fuenzalida’s intelectual trajectory. His anthropological research can be tracked along several stages that show a series of transformations in society, as well as in the subject of analysis, and interpretation, and in his approach to the subject-matter. Throughout four decades he switches from an ethnographic approach centered on culture to approaches that give more importance to political and social transformation. In recent years he returns to global and cultural topics.

“Todos los hombres nacieron en Jerusalém”. Mito y Evangelio en las narraciones sobre los orígenes de los humanos entre los toba (qom) del Chaco argentino
(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Fondo Editorial, 2011-03-23) Tola, Florencia Carmen
Parallelisms between stories of biblical inspiration and myths that describe the origins of the human beings, their corporal transformations and the differences between diverse types of beings can be found in contemporary narrations of the Toba people (Qom) of the Argentinean Gran Chaco. Events described in the Bible are usually spun with elements of the mythical past of Toba people, therefore generating a biblical reading of the indigenous past and new readings on the human origins, of the differences between beings and of the importance of the body in the constitution of human specificity. This paper examines some of these narrations where myths and Biblical stories are interlaced giving rise to new notions of body and person.
