Item Metadata only Comprender: propuesta de pivotes(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Fondo Editorial, 2011) Alonso, SantiagoHow do we understand? A pivot proposalThe basic question is what it is needed to understand. The proposal is that understanding requires pivots, a useful word to integrate findings in different areas. In that sense, a pivot can be understood as a mental model. It can also be the body, an idea based on embodied cognition. But more fundamentally, our biology and brain are the central pivots for understanding. Therefore, this essay can be seen as a brief travel through three different subjects: Mental Models, Embodied Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience, all of which are necessary to understand how a person understands.Item Metadata only El uso de las fuentes escritas en la enseñanza de la Historia. Análisis de textos escolares para tercero y cuarto de secundaria(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Fondo Editorial, 2011) Valle Taiman, AugustaThe use of written sources for teaching History. Analysis of textbooks for thethird and fourth years of high schoolCurrently, in addition to the usual contents, history textbooks now cite primary and secondary sources with suggested activities. This research analyzes these proposed activities in history textbooks for third- and fourth-year students. The objective is to evaluate the degree to which the activities proposed in the sourcespromote the development of critical thought in students.Students exercise critical thought when they engage in the activities suggested in the sources cited to compare different versions of the same historical events and then process this new information to develop their own response to a historical problem. This level of complexity is not achieved in most of the suggested activities given that sources tend to serve only to supplement informationItem Metadata only Con un pie en dos mundos: Programas de educación bilingüe para niños quechuahablantes en el Cusco(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Fondo Editorial, 2011) Saroli, AnnaMoving between two worlds: integrating interculturality in bilingual educationprograms in Cusco, PeruMany indigenous children in Peru are disadvantaged from birth, a situation which is exacerbated by the many deficiencies in the provision of educational services to rural communities. This study presents theresults of a research project which compared two rural schools: one follows the state curriculum; the other, more promisingly, works at the community level with the aim of preparing the children to move with confidence between the two worlds which make up the Peru of today. The study shows promising results in the experimental school in the use both of Spanish and of Quechua by the students.Item Metadata only Políticas nacionales, respuestas y desafíos para alcanzar el segundo objetivo de desarrollo del milenio: «Lograr la enseñanza primaria universal». Fondo Editorial, 2011) Alberca La Torre, Reynaldo Vicente; Frisancho, SusanaPerceptions of Teacher Reflection Among a Group of Public School Teachersin AyacuchoThe goal of this study was to explore beliefs about pedagogical reflection held by teachers in an Ayacucho, Peru public school, and the importance they give it as an integral component of their teaching practice. A group of 18 male and female teachers working at the primary and secondary levels in a school in the city ofHuamanga were interviewed, representing 69% of the institution’s teaching staff. Our investigation shows that the participants struggle to recognize reflection as an essential part of their professional practice, are yet to integrate it into their daily routine, and fail to include it among the attributes of good teachers. The study ends by recommending the creation of greater spaces for reflection for teachers, in order to increase their awareness of their responsibilities as educators and agents of social change.
