Abstract
The purpose of this research is to determine the correlation between visual perception skills, especially of the low motor response activities and spelling. The methodology used in this research has a quantitative approach and a correlational design. The research population is 70 students from the José María Eguren Educational Institution located in the district of Barranco. The variables were measured with the PROESC tests, to measure spelling and the evaluation method of Visual Perception FROSTIG (DTVP-2) to measure visual perception. The results of the tests indicate that the majority of the sample have a good level of visual perception skills with 54.3% and, in terms of spelling, the results, in general, placed the students in a normal level. Regarding the results, the most relevant conclusion is that there is indeed a positive correlation between both variables, likewise, it is shown that regarding Phonetic Spelling the majority of students presented difficulty; in Arbitrary Spelling, a high percentage is within the doubt category; and in Registered Spelling, a high percentage of students presented difficulty. In visual perception, students experience greater difficulty in solving the visual form-constancy skills activities and, to a lesser extent, those related to figure and background.
