This investigation arises due to the luck of latinamerican repertoire in the clarinet's course of two educational higher institutions in Lima. Although the clarinet is a current instrument in diverse latinamerican genres, the repertoire that prevails in its education is from Europe. This situation deprives the clarinetists in training from the necessary tools to approach and appreciate the latinamerican music as its undeniable technical and interpretative values. As a response to this reality, it arises the workshop “Approaching the clarinet to the latinamerican repertoire”, accomplished with a group of higher educational clarinetists in Lima. This work analyses the contributions from this workshop and describes the technical-interpretative benefits this repertoire offers. Ad hoc it’s necessary to use tools as participant observation, field notes and semi-structured interview. This investigation its divide in three chapters: the first one addresses a brief history of the clarinet in Europe and Peru, as well as the repertoire’s situation in the teaching of this instrument and the European canon’s influence; the second chapter describes the basics of the workshop, explaining the selected themes and its explanation, and the third one analyses each one of the sessions from the workshop, as well as its impact in the participants. The analysis of the results allows us to conclude that the latinamerican repertoire offers diverse technical-interpretative benefits in relation with the improve of articulation, rhythmic accents, dynamics, ornamentations, glissandos and improvisation. It’s also an option for the students to amplify and vary its repertoire, being able to approach to its music and identity as they spread its own culture.
